SANTA CLARA, CALIF., MAY 29, 2001 Arula Systems, provider of solutions for managing devices in a decentralized world, today announced the immediate availability of two new products developed to enhance their current product suite. Cerebus x16 is Arulas newest multiport secure remote management solution offering management of 16 target devices in a sleek 1U chassis. Arula CommandCenter offers a new way to manage up to 250 ports from a single screen and IP address.
Arula Cerebus x16
As the latest Arula product, Cerebus x16 doubles the number of ports managed while reducing the overall size of the device in half from the Cerebus c8. Cerebus x16 provides secure, Web-based remote, out-of-band access for up to 16 target devices from any Internet browser in the world. Cerebus x16 provides this functionality in a compact, rack-mounted 1U chassis with simplified power and communication connections.
Cerebus x16 is ideal for large data center environments including managed service providers, application services providers and hosting solutions.
Cerebus x16 demonstrates Arulas continuing commitment to creating secure remote management solutions that fit the need of our corporate IT and service provider customers, said Chandra Venkatraman, CEO and president of Arula Systems.
For a limited time, Cerebus x16 can be upgraded for free to Arulas recently released Universal Agent Platform for IT (UAP-IT) software architecture. The upgrade is a $4,000 value and is available until June 30, 2001.
What is UAP-IT?
UAP-IT is a new device management platform that enables the Arula Product Suite to become true management devices. Arula appliances with UAP-IT enjoy increased capabilities in four areas:
Monitor UAP-IT enables Arula appliances to become active in monitoring the status of the target device.
Notify Enables Arula appliances to send notifications to IT managers to alert them to a change in the status of a target device.
Access UAP-IT makes access a proactive measure instead of reactive. With this development, Arula appliances can access target devices automatically on a regular schedule, enabling IT managers to create more predictive maintenance schedules.
Act Arula appliances with UAP-IT allows IT managers to write and run management and notification scripts via Tool Command Language (TCL) and roll them out to the target devices.
UAP-IT Features and Benefits
With new TCL scripting capabilities, IT managers can create user-defined monitoring, notification and corrective action routines for any target device. This makes remote management a predictable and automated function lowering TCO of the data center.
UAP-IT also allows IT managers to build a true lights-out data center. Besides the instant device access from any web browser, UAP-IT enables pager, mobile phone and wireless PDA notification of any change to target device status. IT managers no longer have to make trips to the data center.
Arula CommandCenter
Arula CommandCenter is a performance monitoring and management platform designed to work in a data center environment with a large number of devices to be accessed and managed. When used in conjunction with Arula management appliances, CommandCenter streamlines the use of Arula appliances and simplifies the higher level management of those appliances.
CommandCenter runs as a website that fronts up to 250 console ports to target devices; the console port access can be provided by using the Arula SecureConsoleSSL, Cerebus c8 , Cerebus x16, CerebusPCI and Dominion c1 products. The CommandCenter website acts as a unified GUI for those 250 ports, consuming only one IP address.
CommandCenter provides the ultimate in port aggregation and management, continued Venkatraman. Now management gets simpler for corporate IT and service providers. They can access and update 250 devices, without having to go to the data center.
